Concentration is the ability to work intensely at a task to the exclusion of every other demand on your attention. The concentration will get lost in 3 aspects.
First, external distractions which are included noise, lighting, air quality, and visual surroundings. Those came from uncomfortable chair, studying surface that is too high or too low, street noise, and music, poor or much light, too hot or too cold, reminders of others things you need to do or rather do, TV, conversation from nearby people, and friends interrupting. Second is internal distraction which comes from inside body. It sometimes occurred by lacking of sleep, poor diet, lacking of exercise, illness, physical injury, relationship, friction with family or friends, worry about money , anxiety about other courses or works. Third, lacking of focus or goal make you can not concentrate in works, so you cannot take course or successes.
It is too difficult to improve the concentration. However, many factors your control such as first, thinking what is power to control and to ignore which is beyond your influence; second getting away what bother you, loud sounds and TV; third setting up the good environment for your course; forth taking care of yourself by get plenty of sleep, food, exercise, and trying to lead a balance life; making concrete goals by reminding what are specific, reasonable, achievement, concrete involving to goals; making list which can revise you every time to your concentration; Keeping a stress file or worry list by writing down which can make you less think of those and move to good concentration; making plan to fight back to distraction which you have to prevent thing from depleting your existing power of concentration.
Even this, a concentration fit to your plan for studying is more important which you should follow these steps. First step is having good preparation of your tasks; second is beginning to study as usual; third is stopping cramming to study; forth is listing the task of distraction, fifth is starting other tasks after finishing the one; sixth is completing the small and easy task first; seventh is moving to the next task, not thinking of the previous one; the last is repeating normal tasks that you used to fail.
If it does not accomplish through these keys you should remember that first, do not look down on yourself; second is using other technique that is productive to your study; third is practicing with your flash card; forth is previewing your textbook, fifth is reviewing lecture note books; sixth is drawing a new mind map; seventh is making new flash card; last is taking a break relax, and try again in a few minutes. In short, these above keys are the good points of leading to good concentration.
